The Travels of Sir John Mandeville is a Medieval book purportedly describing exotic lands encountered by the knight Mandeville on his travels to and beyond the Holy Land. The tales include the Christian emperor Prester John, the land of the Great Chan (Khan), and many fantastic sights and stories. Much of his account was shown false by later travel, but some interesting bits are still true. Whether he wrote of his own experience, or wrote what he found in some book or the tall tales he heard, is not always clear.
The Homilies of the Anglo-Saxon Church by Aelfric of Eynsham is a collection of homilies by this Anglo-Saxon monastic. They are rather allegorical in nature, but are good instruction from a time of limited literacy.
Pictures of the Apostolic Church: Its Life and Teaching by William Mitchell Ramsay is a set of essays by a Scottish theologian, written for a Sunday School magazine for a set of lessons for the year 1909. Covering the Acts of the Apostles, and drawing from several of the Epistles, they give some explanation of how the church grew, why it expanded into Asia Minor, and how Paul finally came to Rome to preach there.
