Heard any good books lately?

LibriVox provides public domain recordings of published works now in the public domain. “Public domain” means that no one holds copyright to the material. As the site is based in the USA, copyright status (for LibriVox’s purpose) is based on American law — which changes from time to time. As of 2022, that generally means the work was copyrighted more than 95 years ago.  Later works may enter public domain if the copyright was not renewed (sometime happened when magazines went bankrupt or a new owner failed to renew), or it was produced by a government office or branch (e.g. State of the Union address, Congressional Committee reports).

I’ve been listening to LibriVox recordings for years, and decided to get involved. All work is done by volunteers: reading/recording/editing, writing descriptions of the works, cataloging recordings, making CD cover art, coordinating recording projects, and so many other activities. Like most volunteers, I’ve started out as a reader, recording myself reading selections. Sometimes it’s a chapter or section from a work, sometimes it’s an entire book. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain.

The table below lists my projects in the order I signed onto them. Completed projects (available for download) have a clickable link. Non-clickable projects are in-process. Please note that projects may take several weeks to several months to complete and become available for listening. Because each project is managed independent of others, a later project may complete before an earlier project. You can search the LibriVox catalog by title, author, or reader’s name.
